You know how every single mentor you've ever had in your whole life has told you, "you can have anything you want, if you try hard enough"? ... They're probably right. But they don't ever tell you that sometimes you should give up that thing you want, if getting it meant hurting someone else...
No matter how much you actually want it.
You just gotta let go of your emotions, and put theirs first...
It's all part of growin up.
it of course depends on what it is you want. They are right in a way, if you want something bad enough your actions will prove it. So what do we really want in life? Love. Acceptance. Salvation. Once we realize what we want most we then change our actions to others, and in turn are kinder, genteler, and more loving. In a sense selfish gratification could then be jusified in what we want most, and then change our actions to others to gain it. Which if what we want is good, we will be good to others.
